Case Managers At the Memphis Spine Center we have chosen to prioritize worker's compensation patients and their case managers. Although every patient is important, when an individual is injured on the job, it costs all of us. Compensation laws guarantee the injured worker 2/3 salary while he or she is out, and the lost productivity caused by his or her absence from work costs the company hundreds of dollars every day. Case management services and medical costs are added to this sum making these injuries very expensive. Since businesses must pay insurance premiums for worker's compensation insurance or incur the cost of lost days and medical management themselves, and they must pass this expense on to their customers in order to remain profitable, we all pay for inefficient on-the-job injury management through higher prices for goods and services. Case managers, whose job it is make sure that care is rendered promptly and efficiently are charged with coming to most physician visits with their clients. These health care professionals often travel great distances and have many such appointments in a day. Their assistance functions to lower the cost of care, and subsequently the cost of worker's comp claims, the cost of worker's comp insurance, and finally the cost of all goods and services. It behooves us all to assist these professionals in any way possible, so that they may stay on schedule, and to keep their various appointments throughout the city. As a case manager, if you have any problem patients or issues please don't hesitate to call or come by to discuss them. Our clinical staff would be grateful if you would keep our personal pager numbers and cell phone numbers so that if the need arises you can contact us directly. These numbers are available upon request. We strive to have all new worker's compensation patients seen the next clinic day after the appointment is made. Second opinions, (those patients that have already been evaluated by an orthopaedic or neurosurgical specialist) will be worked in as soon as possible, but as the patient has already embarked upon a treatment pain and have a primary physician of record, we do not prioritize them to the same degree. If there are special circumstances, call us to discuss them, and we will do all we can to accommodate you! |
